On October 28, 2001 the Suomi National Polar-orbiting
Partnership (NPP)
was launched to collect and distribute remotely-sensed land, ocean, and
atmospheric data to the meteorological and global climate change community.
One of the instruments aboard NPP, the Ozone Mapper Profiler Suite (OMPS),
is designed to collect and distribute data to extend the 30-plus year total ozone
and profile ozone data records. While ozone measurement is the primary purpose
of OMPS, it is also capable of providing global mapping of other atmospheric
constituents, including aerosols, and SO2.
For details about the mission and instrument, see
the NPP
OMPS web page.
